For the Discerning Gentleman

Finally my OWN blog!

Just a quick note to let anyone know that I now officially have my own blog on this site, so I will no longer be using this one to clutter up with my pictures and stories from England. There’s a link to it over there on the left, or it’s here.

New(ish) ink.

New ink
So, as I’ve been telling people, I’m pretty much just too badass to NOT be in a gang at this point since I got this new tattoo. I think the next one is going under this in a move towards a half sleeve eventually. I’m thinking of getting the illustration below. I mean, this first one was an original design by my friend Jeremy, but it’s based on Scythian artwork and a bunch of tattoos that have been found all over frozen mummies in the Steppes. So it’s nerdy AND cool looking. I figure if I’m going to get a sleeve, it might as well be a sleeve that’s tried and true straight from the Bronze Age.

I’ll be going out with Mike all day so that he can show me around. We went to a pub (after MUCH walking) last night, which was crowded but had a good atmosphere. He really wants to move to Pittsburgh because he likes it better there than here, I suppose, so I talked about why I liked the UK more (as far as I can tell) and why he likes the states more. One last meeting to go to and then I can just sort of get myself thoroughly lost and take lots of pictures and hopefully find more souveniers to buy for people.

I’m meeting with Karen Milek this morning at 11 to talk about the geoarch. stuff that she’s doing in Iceland. I don’t know much about geoarchaeology, really, besides the fact that I would like to pursue it, because of my newfound interest in geology.

My biggest concern with the field is that I won’t be able to get at some other things that I’m interested through it. I want to look at human impact on the environment, and I think that’s a possibility, but since I haven’t really DONE any geoarch, how can I know what questions are and are not possible to answer through it. Certainly it’s not going to be the only way that I go about interpreting sites, but if it’s to be my trade, I want to answer the questions that are most interesting to me through it, otherwise what’s the point? Chip chop chip!

So it turns out that I’m in England looking at Cambridge for grad school, and the response from everyone so far has been overwhelmingly positive. That is to say that it’s very likely that I’ll be here next year. Anyway, I’ve been keeping a travel journal, so I thought where better to put it? (more…)

Camping!

Posted in Spectacles by GeeGee Wednesday July 26, 2006 at about 9:35 am

This post is soleley for the purpose of showing off some pictures from camping. I mean, not that anyone will read this or see them…

I went camping with Kyle about…three weeks ago and I just now got around to taking the photos off of my camera. In any case, they seem to have come out pretty well for the most part, and I think that they’re all pretty self explanatory, so there’s not much point in explaining them all. I would have more, but unfortunately, my batteries were dying all weekend. Anyway, enjoy! (more…)
